For the Mayor and each councillor, can you provide the following information:
1. How much remuneration is paid as their base salary
2. How much remuneration is paid for anything whatsoever, in the form of money, that they receive beyond their base salary.
3. Anything, if applicable, that is received in kind in consideration of their role/work.
4. Anything else (if applicable) over and above the categories above that would help Hamiltonians get a complete picture of total compensation received (whether in payment or in kind). On the City's behalf, Mike Zegaric, replied as follows:
Report FCS18015, represents the legislative requirement to report the itemized statement of the remuneration and expenses paid to each Member of Council and citizen appointees to various local boards in the preceding year (2017).
Report FCS18015 represents all paid remuneration, more specifically, Appendix “A” of Report FCS18015 provides the remuneration paid to the Mayor and Members of Council in respect of his or her services as a member of Council or any other body, including a local board, to which the member has been appointed by Council or on which the member holds office by virtue of being a member of Council.
Staff are not aware of any in-king remuneration provided to Council members in 2017, nor any other form of monetary or non-monetary remuneration.
Hope this answers all of your questions

Thanks Mike for your assistance in this matter.
So going to 8 wards saves us around $3m per council term.

great idea.
DeleteIt'll never happen.
I cannot believe how much councilors are getting paid. Based on performance, I'd suggest $60K a year.
ReplyDeleteJust saying....
Yes, $60K a year would really attract great leaders for a billion dollar corporation. This is the unfortunate thing about local government politics, given the pay and the fact that there are no education or experience requirements we end up with what we have running huge corporations that effect people's lives. It is happening everywhere across the Province, Hamilton is not alone. Just because one does not agree with decisions does not mean that the wrong decision was made.

and of course Fred's example has not been lost on the rank and file.
ReplyDeleteBetween 2007-2017 the rate of inflation was 18%
Between 2007-2017 the number of municipal employees on the "Sunshine List" rose from 262 in 2007, to 1,569 last year, for an increase of nearly 600%
While the average salary in Ontario is about $52,000.00, when you factor in pension contributions, vacation pay and health benefits, the average pay for a full time municipal employee is just over $108,000.00.
Fred's a very nice man, and quite generous! You just have to question some (ok, a lot)of his decisions.
Unstoppable?

Everyone on the Sunshine List is entitled to a hearty tax cut. You have my word.
