Quote of the Moment

"The reality is, social media is too often a swamp of derision, rudeness and bad manners. The belittling excesses we're witnessing over the LRT debate are, regrettably, to a large extent also a sign of our times. But this dark side of the LRT debate goes well beyond social media or personal encounters."
Andrew Dreschel of The Hamilton Spectator

The Hamiltonian agrees that discussion can often times become belligerent in all forums, and hopes that we can model good behavior here while discussing LRT and any other issues.

  2. You do a far better job than most, in my opinion greater objectivity displayed here than "the Spec." I guess those front page advertising dollars have a way of colouring ones perspective when it comes to vision.
    My appreciation.

  3. What I enjoy the most about the Hamiltonian is that it isn't what is termed an "Echo Chamber". The Hamiltonian tries to let both pro and con on any issue present their opinions without fear of being marginalized by any one group. I think what you published today about rules of engagement shows leadership in this regard. This is the best civic blog site that I have seen.

With all do respect, if you go to others like RTH and have an opposing view or contrary one is attacked. Similarly, CATCH, although they don't permit discussion is another Hamilton site with a certain bias.

The Hamiltonian isn't like that. That is why I enjoy hearing others opinions, thoughts, knowledge and direction to research.

The Hamiltonian does a fantastic job moderating respectful open discussion. I can only imagine what isn't published.

Keep it up. A great resource for people. The best I've participated in.

Thank-you. We usually require that a handle is attached to a post, but we have made an exception in this case as it is nice for our volunteers to see a positive comment every now and again. Thank-you.

The Hamiltonian was founded in 2008. The Hamiltonian has never asked for money nor does it make money. The purpose of The Hamiltonian is to allow for civic engagement and provide a respectful forum for all. No strings attached.

We also have a great deal of respect for other sites such as The Hamilton Spectator, Raise the Hammer, Joey Coleman and CATCH to name a few.

We have our own approach and style and strive to be nuetral on all topics and not get in the way of discussion.

      Thank-you for your interest.

  4. Sorry, I should have signed off Jimmy. Sorry for the no handle.

I don't want you to think I am slagging the other sites, I get what you are saying.

I just don't see them in the same light as The Hamiltonian, I see that you try to remain neutral and do a great job doing such.

You all do a great job and I think it is a betterment to the community especially when you note you are 9 years old, time flies.

You are also volunteers. That is amazing.

You should do an article about that so everyone understands your history, the number of people involved etc. I've always enjoyed the forum and would like to know all the background.

Thank you to all your volunteers and you Teresa.

    Jimmy
